This month has not only been better reading wise than I had expected it to be, I actually managed to get through three books this month (and I didn’t even try very hard), but it has also been full of new friends and lots of fun on Twitter (you can read more about that at the end of this post). The only book from my TBR post that I didn’t read was A Quest Of Heroes by Morgan Rice. Instead I read Progency of Gods by Geoffrey Storm, which arrived much sooner than I had anticipated. The first book that I finished was Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. And even though I didn’t love it, I definitely liked it. The plot didn’t do much for me, and neither did Celaena, but the writing took me by surprise and I loved it. I liked it so much that I just ordered the remaining three books in the series (not the prequel though). It’ll be fun to keep reading this series.  by Geoffrey Storm Overall I like this book a lot. The wordbuilding is amazing and I can really picture the word as I read. Would love to see the place for myself too, and what an imagination one must have to create such a unique setting with all its history and detail. A truly well written work and the author has a great voice. With a unique word and a struggle between light and dark, good and evil, this book is a great read. I liked the different POVs that this book provided, and mostly I liked having the opportunity to follow the villain, Stiqula through his journey. The knowledge of the reasons behind his action made everything so much more heartbreaking. The middle felt a bit dragging for me, but what book doesn’t drag in the middle? The first and third part however was past and truly enjoyable. I would have wanted some more details and answers to my questions regarding Stiqula in the end though, but maybe that’s something that will be answered in the sequel. by Sarah J. Maas I didn’t have a lot of expectations when I started reading this book and even though I had heard a lot of great stuff about it, I tried not to get affected by that. I also had no idea what the book was about when I began, except that the main character was an assassin. Towards the end of the book, I was really happy that I had not read the synopsis or any reviews of the book since that made it more exciting in a way. Overall, I think this book is really good and it’s definitely worth reading. I can also see why it’s such a popular series. However, I did find it to be a bit slow at times. There wasn’t really a lot of things going on and most pages seemed to me nothing but beautiful descriptions of everything from falling leaves to starlit skies. But Sarah J. Maas’ beautiful writing is also what makes it all worth it, and even if I felt like I wanted more twists and turns and action, her writing made me keep reading all the way to the end. A few days ago I finally managed to complete the first draft of my WIP called Purebred. I set out to both start and finish the draft in July, but ended up missing my goal with just three days. On August 3rd I wrote the final word and I have to say it felt really good, despite the fact that I didn’t meet my goal. But who cares, the draft is done now and I am happy about that. I tried something a little bit different this time, and instead of writing a lot of stuff I decided to try and narrow it down a bit and just stick to the basic stuff I wanted in the novel. When I wrote Hunted my first draft ended up being 130k words, which was way too much and since then I have struggled so much with cutting and finding ways to get to the point without all of those words. And as I said, it has been difficult. So for Purebred I finished at only 50k words for the first draft, with the intention of adding more. I figured that maybe it would be easier to add stuff, rather than take it…

So I will not really be one of those people who read like fifteen books in a month, I think I’m rather a 2-3 books per month kind of girl. Not that I wouldn’t want to read fifteen, but writing is what I love the most and therefor it’s also what takes up most of my time. So, with that said, let me introduce my August TBR list. First up is Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas This is a book I just recently heard of and I am excited to try it out. by Brandon Sanderson This book was very good, it was fast and easy to read and I felt like the author had really put a lot of thought into the whole thing. Love the writing too. Great worldbuilding and the characters had distinctive voices and overall I definitely like it. I did find it a bit hard to get into at first, but after few chapters it held my interest. At first I did feel like I was reading some sort of X-Men fan-fiction and that did put me off a bit, but after I got over that feeling it all went a lot better. One thing that kind of bugs me a bit after finishing it, is that I can’t remember the name of the main character. I do remember him being called Knees by the girl, Megan. I also remember the other members of the Reckoners: Tia, Cody, Jon (Prof), A… (?? I want to sat Amadeus, but I am pretty sure that’s wrong).
