Have you written a novel and need a second pair of eyes to look at it? I’m available as both a Beta Reader and for Developmental Editing.
Beta Read – $50 (up to 100k words)
What is a Beta Reader and why do you need one?
Before you send your manuscript to an editor, or before you start querying agents, you want to obtain objective feedback from multiple sources in order to find what works and what doesn’t in your story. A Beta Reader is in reality a test reader that you call in at the very end of your process, to see if the novel works the way you intended.
What does a Beta Read from me include?
• I will provide you with constructive feedback when it comes to flow, characterization, pacing, worldbuilding.
• I will look for plot holes and things that doesn’t add up.
• I will provide you with some inline comments as I read to point out things that I find.
• In my detailed reader report, I will also share my overall thoughts and ideas and any tips on how to improve your story.
Developmental Edit – $0.01 per word (90k word manuscript = $900)
What is a Developmental Edit and why would you need one?
A Develeopmental Edit digs deeper into a manuscript and aims to help you see what you need to do in order to get your manuscript to where you want it. After a developmental edit you will know which parts work, what doesn’t, what might need more work etc. It will therefore also give you the tools to possibly deconstruct and rebuild and improve your novel.
A developmental edit can be uncomfortable, and it requires you to be open to suggestions and critique. If you’re only looking for positive feedback and praise, this is not the gig for you.
What does a Developmental Edit from me include?
• I will provide you with constructive feedback when it comes to flow, characterization, pacing, worldbuilding.
• I will look for plot holes and things that doesn’t add up.
• I will provide you with detailed inline comments throughout the manuscript as I read the story where I give you my thoughts and ideas from the perspective of both reader and writer/editor (I’ll not proofread or correct/comment on grammar and spelling unless I spot something obvious)
• I will provide suggestions, examples and ideas that I feel could help you look at your story in a different way and possibly spark some ideas for you.
• I will also provide you with a detailed letter (around 10-13 pages) where I share my overall thoughts and ideas.
• I will tell you the things that I liked and thought worked well, but also the things that I feel might need more work or even be removed.
• After you’ve received my feedback, I’m available for follow up questions and discussions on how to move forward with the manuscript.
So, why hire me?
• I’m an avid reader and writer.
• I’ve been a Beta Reader, Critique Partner and Developmental Editor for many authors since 2008.
• I’m honest and will not hesitate to tell you what I think, but I always try to provide constructive feedback so that you can get an idea on how to proceed.
• I’ve worked as a Public Relations Manager and Editor-in-chief and know my way around words.
• I’ll graduate with a BFA in creative writing ina couple of months, with courses focusing on children’s literature and fantasy/sci-fi.
• The feedback you get from me will not be posted on my blog, or anywhere public. This is a personal thing between you and me.
• I won’t try to rewrite your story “my way”.
