by Alex Austin. Today I wanted to show you the cover of a book I had the great pleasure of reading when it was just a baby waiting to find its home. And now that it has, I can’t wait to get my hands on the final version and read it again. End Man is available for pre-order on Amazon right now, and I highly recommend you check it out. Here’s the official blurb from Amazon: Once your life is diluted to ones and zeroes on the End Man’s desk, it’s over. Or is it? Afflicted with dromophobia, the fear of crossing streets, 26-year-old Raphael Lennon must live out his life within the four thoroughfares that border his Los Angeles neighborhood. Luckily, he found a fulfilling job within his space as an End Man at Norval Portals where Raphael is the best possum hunter in the company. He hunts the dead who live, people hiding under the guise of death. He doesn’t want to bring these “possums” to justice but to keep them out of his firm’s necrology database so their presence doesn’t crash the whole system. When the company founder assigns Raphael a fresh case, he sets aside all…

Today I have the honor to present the amazing cover for the upcoming book Windward, written by the talented S. Kaeth.
I just wanted to make a short post and explain and apologize to everyone for being completely MIA for a while now. Short version is that I’m pregnant and is expecting my first child within a months time. I sort of thought this time would have enabled me to read a lot and do lots of reviews, but unfortunately it rather made me extremely tired and exhausted and without any inspiration for reading. I tried reading a few books a while back, but I realized that I wasn’t “into it” the way I should and therefore I also knew my review would not be accurate and I wanted to give all of you indie authors out there the best chance of a great review. I also want to say thank you for all the emails I’ve gotten during this time and I know I’ve been really bad at answering, please don’t take this personal. And as a last comment, I wanted to let you know that I’ve begun to sort through all of my emails (there’s hundreds of them) and I hope I’ll be able to dig into some new books in the near future. Thanks
My friend and critique partner Brittney Coon is celebrating the release of her first novel today. The book is called Shades of Sydney and it’s a New Adult Romance. Below you’ll find some more detail about the book and some information about the author. I was nominated for the Infinity Dreams Award by the amazingly talented Kaitlyn at E.M. Lita, who has also been a super helpful and given me so much great feedback on my latest manuscript. Here are the rules for this nomination. Thank and follow the blog that nominated you. Tell us eleven facts about yourself. Answer the questions that were set for you to answer. Nominate 11 bloggers and set questions for them. (Personally, I’m not sure I have that many friends though) 11 Random Facts I’m completely addicted to video games and computer games. When I was 8 years old I began breeding rabbits and went to shows and everything. Eventually had over twenty individuals, but by 17 I transitioned into breeding cats instead. I’m very blunt and honest. Don’t ask me something if you’re not ready to hear the truth. I met my husband through my mother. He was helping her renovate her house while I was in Africa working. She texted me saying I should come home because she had found a man for me. Guess she was right. I live on a small farm in the middle of the woods in a village where hardly anyone…
About a week ago I unfortunately caught the flu and ended up being stuck in bed for what feels like forever. Haven’t been able to do much for the whole week and all the books on my TBR list are still waiting for me to dig in, but when my eyes couldn’t stay open for more than a few minutes at a time it felt like an impossible task. But finally I’m getting better and I’ve started reading again and in a few days I hope to post a new review here. In the meantime I did sketch out the main character in my newest work in progress, a fantasy novel called Shards of Life (name may change) that I’ve been thinking about and plotting for over ten years. Finally I’ve decided to really make it happen. So I sketched the main character by hand with a pen and paper, and considering I’m a crappy artist I knew I would never be happy with just the hand made drawing. The drawing ended up looking rather funny and the eyes were set too close, the face was too narrow, the nose was too small and yeah, it didn’t look that good….
When I’m writing, I always find myself wondering what certain things sound like and how I am going to make my reader hear what I hear. What does it sound like when a glass break against a concrete floor? In order to make it easier for myself in finding the right word, I went on a massive search on the internet and I dug deep into my dictionary to find words that would describe sounds. Then I compiled all of this into one single document and added it to my Scrivener template, so that I now get easy access to my own dictionary of sounds every time I sit down to write. So I figured, that if I have use for this long list of “sound words”, then maybe other do to. So here is my list of 123 words to describe sound. Enjoy. Oh, and before we get started: if anyone have additional words to add to the list, I’d be happy to hear them. Bang: a loud sudden sound, often a metallic explosive sound Bark: short bursts, like that from a dog Beat: a single regular sound or a series of regular sounds, especially of two things hitting…
So the madness that has been PitchWars is now over and the 2015 Mentees have been chosen. Congrats to all who made it and good luck in the future. I hope you do well in the agent round later. It wasn’t a surprise to me that I didn’t get picked, and it’s not that big of a deal for me either. I didn’t see Pitch Wars as a competition where only the best ones won, I saw it as an opportunity and a way to get my foot into the writing community. Being so new to this thing and living so far away from other writers it’s sometimes hard to find friends and people to talk to, but Pitch Wars really made this a lot easier for me. During the time we all waited eagerly to find out who the mentors was going to pick, many of them used the #PitchWars twitter hashtag to give us hints and tips. And many of these tips I knew and some were new and great. Unfortunately I don’t have the memory to remember them all and write them down right here though. A few things I already knew, but things that I still…
This month has not only been better reading wise than I had expected it to be, I actually managed to get through three books this month (and I didn’t even try very hard), but it has also been full of new friends and lots of fun on Twitter (you can read more about that at the end of this post). The only book from my TBR post that I didn’t read was A Quest Of Heroes by Morgan Rice. Instead I read Progency of Gods by Geoffrey Storm, which arrived much sooner than I had anticipated. The first book that I finished was Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. And even though I didn’t love it, I definitely liked it. The plot didn’t do much for me, and neither did Celaena, but the writing took me by surprise and I loved it. I liked it so much that I just ordered the remaining three books in the series (not the prequel though). It’ll be fun to keep reading this series. I have posted a compete review of this book on the blog, and on Goodreads. The second book i read was Progency of Gods by Geoffrey Storm, which I…
